5 reasons to visit Perth with a young child in tow:

Planning for a trip, but not sure where to go, especially if you have a young child or children in tow? You can consider travelling to Perth, and here are my reasons for this suggestion:

1. Safety
We have heard stories (whether it is true or not) of children being kidnapped while they are having holidays in some countries, and parents definitely do not want the same thing to happen to their own children. Perth have a good safety record, and in fact, their people care a lot about your child's safety as well, as there are strict laws regarding strapping of children in child seat while travelling on the road. You do not have to worry too much about the safety issues of your child.

2. Cleanliness
Mummies are constantly worried about where to look for clean toilets and hot water for their children, and similar to Singapore, Perth is relatively clean, and you can find clean toilets and hot water easily. Air is crisp and fresh in Perth, since it is not a heavily industrial city, and this reduces the probability that your child will fall sick in a new environment.

3. Short Flight
Afraid that your child grows bored or goes cranky on board a plane? What can you do to keep them entertained in the restricted space of your plane seat? Perth is just a 5 hours flight away from Singapore, meaning that if you plan well (for example, keeping the little one active before the flight so that they can sleep in the plane), you'll most probably survive the flight without too much hassle.

4. Educational
Kangaroos and koala bears are no longer just a picture in flash cards. Watching free roaming animals, touching and feeding them is a great educational experience for the children, and they will also have first hand experience living on a farm.

5. Wines
Nope, this is not about getting the child drunk so that you can enjoy your holiday. To thoroughly enjoy a holiday, while the child enjoys, parents should also find something that they love. Margaret River and Swan Valley has a lot of wineries where parents can visit and appreciate how wines are manufactured.

Perth Trip Day 5 - Perth City, Caversham Wildlife Park

I started the morning walking pass Murray Street, Hays Street to The Bell Tower and back, stopping as and when to take photos along the way.

After checking out, we drove (~30mins) to Caversham Wildlife Park, our final stop in Perth. It was drizzling when we reached there, so we had some sandwiches at the food kiosk near the entrance of the Park while waiting for the rain to stop.

When the rain gets smaller, we started exploring the Park and spent quite some time feeding super cute kangaroos who are roaming freely in the Park. 

At around 12.30pm, we made our way to Molly's Farm to check out the farm animals and to book a good seat for the Farm Show, which starts at 1pm. 

The farm show was very enriching where you can watch sheep dogs literally chasing the sheep, sheep shearing, learn how to crack a whip, milk a cos, bottle feed a lamb etc.

After the farm show, we visited the koala bears, and were delighted to see some of them actively awake, as koala bears sleep on the average 20 hours per day.

Caversham Wildlife Park is very near the Perth International Airport, and we drove straight to the there for our flight back to Singapore after buying some lanolin cream at the souvenir shop. With this, we drove ended our trip to this Wonderland, with great memories of this vast green land with animals roaming freely around.

Perth Trip Day 4 - Farm Activities at Margaret River Hideaway, Fremantle Market, Perth City

Margaret River Hideaway has farm activities every Saturday, Sunday Tuesday and Thursday mornings. While my niece participated in the activities on this Saturday morning, we had fun tagging along and looking at how the little children interacts with the farm animals.

Soon, it's time to say bye bye to Margaret River, and we drove to Fremantle for the Fremantle weekend market.

Fremantle during weekend was very different from Fremantle during weekdays; the street was bustling with people and we had a bit of difficulties making our way around. We were soaked in the busy atmosphere at Fremantle Market where we did some shopping, before heading to Kailis Fish Market Cafe for our Fish & Chip late lunch.  

We left Fremantle, and drove to Perth city and checked in at Four Points by Sheraton.

At the recommendation and direction from the hotel staffs, we walked to the nearby Northbridge, which is the Chinatown of Perth. There isn't too much to see there, so after dinner at the food court, we headed back to the hotel and call it a day.

Perth Trip Day 3 - Margaret River

Margaret River is well known by wine lovers for its wine production, and a popular travel attraction for people travelling to the Western Australia region. We started the morning by exploring around the farm at Margaret River Hideaway, and watching children who are staying at other cottages taking fresh eggs from the pen where chickens are kept.

We then drove for about 40mins to Yallingup Shearing Shed (Lot 1442 Wildwood Road, Yallingup). 

There wasn't any sheep shearing session that day, so we left after a short tour around the shed to the nearby (~11mins drive) Wonky Windmill Farm & Eco Park (218 Yelverton North Road, Yelverton). 

There are a few activities which you can choose from: Visiting the farm animals where you can touch and feed them, going to the orchard to pick fruits, or simply enjoying tea and freshly baked cakes at the cafe. My sister's family visited the farm animals and my niece had fun feeding and touching them, even though she was a little apprehensive at first, while I visited the orchard with my parents and had the opportunity to eat oranges freshly plucked from the orange trees. 

After a fun filled morning, we had lunch at Cheeky Monkey Brewery & Cidery (4259 Caves Road, Margaret River WA 6280), which is a 26mins drive away. This is an economical dining option as compared to dining at wineries, with an equally splendid view.

After lunch, we went to Vasse Felix (Tom Cullity Dr, Cowaramup WA 6284), a famous winery in Margaret River region, then to the nearby Margaret River Nougat Company (Tom Cullity Dr, Cowaramup WA 6284), before shopping for chocolates and ice creams at Margaret River Chocolate Factory (415 Harmans Mill Road, Metricup WA 6280). 

We initially planned to go to other shops such as Margaret River Providore (448 Harmans South Rd, Wilyabrup WA 6280), Margaret River Nuts and Cereals (Harmas Mill Road Metricup WA 6280), Margaret River Dairy Company (Bussel Hwy, Cowaramup WA 6284) and Cany Cow (Cnr of Bottrill St & Brussel Hwy, WA 6284), but as the parents are getting tired, we headed back to Margaret River town for some shopping and bought stuffs at Coles Supermarket for our BBQ dinner at our cottage tonight.

Although it was a humble dinner, we had fun cooking & eating together under the starry night of the Australian sky.
