The purpose of our trip is very simple and clear: Viewing the Northern Lights.
My travel companions and I choose Finland to fulfil this line item from our kick-bucket list as it is closer to Singapore (means less flying ~12 hours), and more "economical" as compared to other locations.
As we research more for our itinerary, our excitement grew after getting to know that:
- The world's only real Santa Claus lives in Finland and we can pay him a visit at the Santa Claus Village
- Sleeping under the star is possible without exposing to harsh temperature by staying in a Glass Igloo, and Kakslauttanen Artic Resort in Finland offers such experience
- Neighbouring Northern Norway is accessible by bus from Finland, meaning that we can also visit the beautiful fjord of Norway without too much flying
- The City of Northern Lights is in Alta, and it is usually less cloudy as compared to the the coastal regions with manageable temperature, due to the Gulf Stream
- A ferry trip along the Alta fjord can bring us to the northern most town in the world (Hammerfest)
As such, we expanded our plans and embarked on our journey to Finland & Norway.
